Royal J. Morton*
Royal was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario and studied in Toronto before moving to B.C. in 1997 to article at the Vancouver office of a national firm. He fell in love with Vancouver and decided to stay, practicing at a litigation boutique in downtown Vancouver before joining McQuarrie.
Royal is a Partner on our Commercial Litigation team. Royal’s expertise is in land related disputes, including cases involving commercial and residential sale agreements, land development, construction and builders liens, commercial leases, foreclosures and farm and land use disputes, particularly within the Indo-Canadian community throughout BC. His practice also includes debtor/creditor, shareholder, partnership and society disputes, unfair competition, defamation and trademark infringement and representation of realtors, insurance agents and mortgage brokers before their various disciplinary bodies.
Royal’s focus is on a practical and economical approach to solving business disputes, and on high quality and practical advocacy where litigation is necessary. He has over 20 years of experience in B.C. Supreme Court conducting lengthy and complex trials and handling appeals before the B.C. Court of Appeal.
More recently, Royal has been selected to appear in the 12th edition of Benchmark Litigation Canada, highlighted as a Benchmark Litigation Star as part of their 2023 research cycle.
When not working tirelessly to pursue his client’s interests, Royal can be found taxiing his daughters to and from competitive swim practices and meets or basketball or track’n field practices or competitions.
