Royal J. Morton*
Royal is a Partner on our Commercial Litigation team and a member of the Executive Committee at McQuarrie.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Royal studied in Toronto before moving to B.C. in 1997 to article at the Vancouver office of a national firm. He fell in love with Vancouver and decided to stay, practicing at a litigation boutique in downtown Vancouver before joining McQuarrie.
Royal’s expertise is in land related disputes, including cases involving commercial and residential sale agreements, strata property and governance disputes, land development, construction and builders liens, commercial leases, foreclosures and farm and land use disputes, particularly within the Indo-Canadian community throughout B.C.
His practice also includes debtor/creditor, shareholder, partnership and society disputes, unfair competition, defamation and trademark infringement and representation of realtors, insurance agents and mortgage brokers before their disciplinary body, the BCFSA. Royal also advises on financial disputes arising from commercial transactions or lending relationships, including buying and selling businesses and real estate.
Royal’s focus is on a practical and economical approach to solving business disputes, and on high quality and practical advocacy where litigation is necessary. He has over 27 years of experience in B.C. Supreme Court conducting lengthy and complex trials and handling appeals before the B.C. Court of Appeal.
Royal provides strategic advice and advocacy at all stages of dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, litigation, and appeals arising from BC Supreme Court trials.
Royal was highlighted as a Benchmark Litigation Star in their 13th edition research cycle.
When not working tirelessly to pursue his clients’ interests, Royal can be found watching his daughters’ basketball and volleyball games, or walking his dog, Nala, with his wife, Marta or exercising in his home gym.
