McQuarrie’s Commitment to Hospital Foundations

We realize that beyond our commitment to client service and the practice of law, our success depends largely on the wellbeing of our clients. With this in mind, we have consistently given back to the communities that we serve. In particular, we have focused on providing charitable contributions and support to both the Surrey Memorial Hospital, through the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the Royal Columbian Hospital, through the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. We are dedicated to doing what we can to ensure that the people of Surrey and New Westminster get the best healthcare possible.

Royal Columbian Hospital’s Multi-purpose Interventional Unit

The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation’s mission is to help save lives, restore health and provide comfort by raising funds that directly benefit patients at the Royal Columbian Hospital. It is important to note that Royal Columbian is the only hospital in British Columbia that accommodates cardiac patients, trauma patients, and high-risk maternity patients, while featuring an on-site neonatal intensive care unit and a neurosciences facility. With this in mind, we donated $50,000 to the foundation as a part of McQuarrie Hunter’s Health & Welfare program. A significant portion of our $50,000 donation will go toward funding a new Multipurpose Interventional Suite. This Suite will provide an expansion of specialized services for the diagnoses and treatment of heart disease, stroke, and brain aneurysms. When one considers that heart disease and stroke are two of the three leading causes of death in Canada, the overwhelming benefit of the new Interventional Suite to the New Westminster community becomes clear.

In addition to doing what we can to provide funding to Royal Columbian Hospital, McQuarrie Hunter’s lawyers have also taken an active role in the management of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation. Our former partner, the late David Worthington, served on the Board of Directors for the foundation while Wade Winkler was a co-chair of the Gala Committee for several years.

Surrey Memorial’s Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre

McQuarrie Hunter also has done what it can to support the Surrey Memorial Hospital through the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. In fact, our own Jacy Wingson is a past president and current member of the Foundation’s board of directors. Although we have provided donations to support various hospital endeavors, our recent contributions to the foundation have largely gone towards the creation of the hospital’s brand new Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Center.

The new Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre strives to create better health within the community by providing an integrated and seamless network of outpatient health care services for residents of the Fraser Valley. The centre provides a full range of outpatient services, including day surgery, diagnostic services and specialized health clinics. Some notable clinics located within the centre include the first breast health clinic in the Fraser Valley, an integrated cardiac rehabilitation and prevention clinic, and a maternity clinic.

Surrey: A Healthy Community

There are few things as important as public access to an efficient and state-of-the-art health care system. By supporting health care in our community, we feel that we are able to provide contributions that make a real difference. Hospitals serve everyone. Although we are proud of many of the things we do at McQuarrie Hunter LLP, there are few things that we consider as rewarding as supporting the Royal Columbian and Surrey Memorial hospitals.
